Perplex City, an ARG (alternate reality game) game made by
Mind Candy with a real prize of 200 thousand dollars, is nearing the end of its
first season. This means that the average Joe will become 200,000 dollars
richer by finding the stolen Cube of mysterious origin. This cube is an object
of great importance to the Perplexians and belongs in their museum but was
stolen almost a year ago during the annual ball. After the cube was stolen the
Cube was hidden here on earth and it is now up to us to find the cube by
solving the many mysteries and puzzles found on the Perplex City cards.
The Perplex city cards range from very easy (red cards) to extremely hard
(silver cards) each card has a puzzle and a code near the top so you are able
to get the "Perplex Points" and become closer to finding the cube.
Most cards also have a hidden mystery ranging from rare signed cards to card
symbols and even faded letters which when the cards are put together reveal yet
another puzzle. Each card is part of a four card group and if you solve each
puzzle in a four card group you are awarded several bonus points which can
really add up. These Perplex cards are much larger than the average card so
that the viewer can easily read and decode the puzzle and since these puzzles
are so hard some cards remain to be unsolved.
Perplex city also has a wide range of online sites in which users can interact
with such as the many made-up blogs of the Perplexians along with the Perplex
city's bank, museum, newspaper and much more. Most of these sites are also
connected to a larger mystery with hidden objects and encrypted messages at
every turn. In addition to all these Perplexed sites is a huge list of fan
based Perplex City sites which can greatly enhance your game play and help you
on that darn card you're stuck on as well as keeping you informed on community
events.
Websites and cards are just the beginning to Perplex City as you are able to
call and e-mail Perplexians and they might even call you as they had done in
one of Mind Candy's Perplexed events such as the most recent one located in San
Francisco. You also have a complete map of Perplex City on the back of its
cards, this map is also located on perplexcity.com.
Perplex city's main site also allows you to keep track of how many cards you
have completed, when you completed them, and of which set your completed cards
belonged to. You can keep track of your awarded points and what ranking you are
among thousands of other Perplexed Players. Finally, you are also able to see
just how much of perplex city you have revealed on your solved cards.
Perplex City has a strong trading card community in which you are able to trade
puzzles for puzzles from another player. Of course the price varies from card
to card, as mentioned above the red cards are just about everywhere and are
worth very little but it could take several cards to trade for one silver or
black card. You could even get a hint from the person you received the traded
card from.
Perplex City is a most curious game that allows you to both have a good time,
as well as stretch your mind to its furthest extent. If you ever need something
to trick your friends, this game is what you want. Sometimes it seems the
answer is much too obvious for it to be correct, and that it what tricks people
the most. While figuring out the puzzles and learning things I never knew about
many a thing, I had to adjust my mind to the contrast of the cards. Some of
them were riddles, some of them decoding, and some of them just plain brain
power cards.
The thing you have to remember, after the fact that you can receive a $200,000
reward for solving the problems and finding the cube, is the fact that there
really is a cube hidden somewhere on earth and you really do have to find it. I
have a feeling, and this is just a hunch, that the last puzzle you will solve,
will be putting the cards together to form a mega map to the hidden cube!
So you may have wondered a bit at the beginning “why should I play a game that
takes so much time, effort, and brain power, when I could just play Clue and
find out who killed Mr. Body' Here's your answer: They don't pay you $200,000
to find out who killed Mr. Body in Clue. Have fun with the Perplex City cards,
but you should know that there are thousands of people aiming for the exact
same prize your going for so let the games begin!
