Robert takes a detailed look into "Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars" which is the sequel of "Cossacks: European Wars."

It has been five years since the release of the critically acclaimed Cossacks: European Wars. Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars, set in the 19th century, puts players in the chair of the leader of one of six main powers of the Napoleonic Wars: France, Britain, Austria, Russia, Prussia, or Egypt.

The developer of Cossacks II, GSC Game World, has gone to great lengths to bring the era of the Napoleonic Wars to life for its players. They do this in many different ways, one of which is to combine real life battles of the era with fictional battles. By doing this they let the user experience, recreate, and change the outcome of 6 different real battles and 4 fictional ones.

Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars (PC)Cossacks II also immerses you in the Napoleonic Wars with its 5 different gameplay types. Single player lets you choose from one of 3 different formats. The first, which is campaign mode, not only has a tutorial campaign; it also lets you experience some of the most known Napoleonic campaigns playing as a prominent figure and commander.

Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars (PC)Battle for Europe, the second single player mode, is a combination of turn based gameplay and real time. This is a great example of what can happen when you mix 2 very popular gameplay types. It lets the user experience the events of the Napoleonic period in a full scale and realistic manner. The way it works: you are leader of one of the six nations, you move your troops from one area to another, and you trade resources, try to conquest, and make peace with all of Europe. If you make war or go to another land than you're in, you go from a map and turn based play to a real time play then you have to battle and make your way though the land to achieve your objectives.

Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars (PC)Skirmish and/or Battles mode is the third single player mode, which is set up in a traditional real-time strategy style of play. It is vary open ended and most real time strategy fans will enjoy this play style. The key to these games is resource gathering, technology trees, upgrades, strategic buildings, and, of course, effective warfare.

There are 2 more gameplay types, one of which is Internet play, and the other, which is Multiplayer. The Internet and Multiplayer let you play in 2 modes: Death match and Battles with the latter reproducing real historical battles, in addition to some fictional, with the possibility to change their outcome.

There are several other aspects that affect the play of all 5 gameplay modes; they include Diplomacy, Economics, and a Troop Experience and Morale System. Diplomacy is a part of all war and peace; thus, Cossacks II is no different. From backstabbing your allies to aligning yourself with the strong until your ready to take them on, diplomacy works in the game the same as it does in real life. This adds a good bit of realism to the game.
