High: UBO 2006 has wonderfully fluid game play, pretty graphics, and offers an over all fun experience to the player. Low: UBO really has no low points, great game worth the download and play.
So its summer time, the baseball session is at its height and your looking to join the action via a video game, well Ultimate Baseball Online 2006 is a great option. UBO 2006 is a Massive Multiplayer Online Sports game, and it brings some original and great game play to the table. Developed by Netamin with its new technology they bring you a first of its kind MMOSG.
This is a game you really have to play to get to know all the features and everything it has to offer, here is some info from there site:
"Ultimate Baseball Online 2006 gives players the opportunity to play sports gamers from other countries in virtual competition. Ultimate Baseball Online is currently played world wide, with large fan bases not only in the U.S., but also in Canada, Japan, Korea, England, Germany, Australia, and numerous other countries.
Ultimate Baseball Online 2006 is a technological innovation which lets sports fans and gamers play a virtual version of baseball in a real-time environment on any PC with a broadband connection. UBO delivers a first-person perspective online sports experience as human players form teams to compete against other teams in real-time. UBO players can compete in tournaments to win cash and other valuable prizes.
In Ultimate Baseball Online, players create their own characters, and gain experience for every game they play. When their character "levels up," they get points that they can use to increase their character's abilities in areas such as running speed, throwing power, batting power, etc. Unlike traditional baseball video games, UBO lets players play with teammates - everyone sees the game from their own character's first-person perspective. And just as in baseball, team communication (team chat) is essential for success on the field."
What does all this mean? It means you play as a single player on a team, so that means you have to work with up to 17 other real players. So yes you can work your own player up and work your way up the chain but you still have to work with others to really get the most out of your character and the game.
There are lots of features in the game that we are not going to cover, like starting a club, being a manager or general manager, these are complex and are worthy of reviews of there own so we are going to focus on being a player.
The batting system is beyond wonderful, its realistic and easy, very well thought out, having real players as game design consultants really pays off here. The pitching system is just as well refined and very powerful many different pitching combos. The fielding is not as easy to control but once you get used to the controls it really makes since and you love then for giving you so much freedom. They really make you play in this game; there is very little automation of your game you really get to play your characters positions.
Visuals in this game are nothing to laugh at that's for sure, for an online game there is no lag and the look/feel of the game is extremely complete and well thought out. This is one of the most complete games I have seen in a long time, well placed controls and panels. Though there are better looking fields and players out there you can't get type of gameplay out of them.
The sound of hitting a ball and the crowed going wild when it's a home run, sounds you just can't get wrong, and UBO is no exception. Though the sound system in the game will win no awards it does the job well, and in this type of game is really almost not worth mentioning. Not that it's bad but not the most important feature. The sound effects and voices are great and enhance the overall games experience.
UBO takes baseball games to a new level and it will be hard to go back to the traditional baseball games. I have to say I will personally have a hard time previewing and reviewing other titles seeing as this game will be taking up a lot of my time. This is a preview, but I am happy to say the game is in an open beta and can be downloaded for free from the games official site.
